While there were many interesting replies, no long term fix was ever found. That was the case until now. Does Rolex know of an issue with the 3235? We will be last to know. The foreseeable future is the 32XX class of movements, and this post isn’t to discourage you from buying watches with them.
I have given a 3235 already 2x to Rolex for repair, for free within the guarantee period. Got it back without any indication what they did, extremely discrete as always. Based on my pristine experience with the 3135 and satisfactory experience with the 3235 (even if hit and miss), I trust Rolex and I have no doubt the source of the problem can be found and addressed, eventually. Grinding out a Submariner case or melting ceramic into a red and white bezel insert is just icing on the cake, and I’m sure Rolex knows this. One of the absolute worst things Rolex could do is replace a time-tested and reliable movement like the 3135 with something that doesn’t work as it should.
